How the Knowledge Test works

Articles have a Knowledge Test that helps monitor your progress and knowledge level. The Knowledge Test has two parts. The first part is a progress test. The second part has test questions, including resit questions. In both cases, the results obtained are immediately updated in the Knowledge Monitor.

Progress test

In the progress test, you only need to indicate that you have studied an article. This form of knowledge test is used for knowledge articles based on an open standard.

Test questions

For articles that monitor progress with a knowledge level requirement, you take the Knowledge Test with test questions. The article author determines (partly based on the applicable guidelines) the scope, level and length of an article in addition to the content and number of test questions. The number of test questions is always between one and 10 test questions. These are determined by such factors as the time needed to study the article.

The author provides feedback for each knowledge test. This ensures you know exactly what the right answer is and why.

You need to complete the test correctly to meet your specified requirements in a knowledge app. If you do not pass the first time, you may have the option to take a resit. If a resit is available, this is visible on the knowledge test.

If you take both the knowledge test and the resit and pass both, the higher score counts. Obviously, this is only of interest to you for articles with multiple test questions.

When did you successfully complete a knowledge test?

As noted earlier, there are two types of knowledge tests. When the progress test is activated for an article, you receive the corresponding score when you set the tick mark on the progress test. So little can go wrong with that.

In knowledge tests with only one test question, you may or may not pass the knowledge test. In knowledge tests with multiple test questions, you do not pass the knowledge test until you answer a specific percentage of the questions correctly.

By default, this is set to 70%. However, this may differ for particular knowledge apps. The exact percentage is shown as an objective in the Knowledge Monitor under the Knowledge Level section.

Answer options

The knowledge test has four types of answer options:

Answer type2Explanation3Knowledge test type

Multiple choiceOne answer is correctTest questions
Multiple selectMultiple answers are correctTest questions
Open answerCalculated value, numberTest questions

When is the knowledge test displayed?

This depends on the design of the knowledge application. The following options are possible:

  • The knowledge test is always visible and displayed immediately when you open an article.
  • The knowledge test only becomes visible when – based on timekeeping – the study time associated with an article has been met.
  • The knowledge test is only visible when the timekeeping has been met and all progress monitoring checkboxes have been ticked off. The progress monitor is a pop-up that is displayed at different times when accessing an article.

As long as the knowledge test is not visible, a notification is displayed at the location of the knowledge test.

Knowledge Monitor, Management Dashboard and Business Dashboard

When you have completed a test, your personal progress is updated in real time in the Knowledge Monitor, Compliance Monitor and Business Monitor. This allows you to demonstrate internally and externally that you are current and meet your continuing education and education requirements.

Marking status articles

You can see at a glance which articles you have or have not completed by the associated statuses shown in different places. These take the form of a certificate icon or tick mark.

A grey certificate icon or tick mark means the article must still be completed. A green icon and tick mark mean the article was completed successfully. A red icon and tick mark means the article was completed, but not passed.

Note that you can also filter your open or completed articles based on status. You can find the statuses for each article on the overview page and in the details of an opened article.
